The First Sino-German Workshop on Metal Forming Processes and Technology was held successfully in Chongqing University in the southwest of China from Oct. 11th to Oct. 17th, 2007. This workshop was subsidized by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, Prof. Yang He from Northwestern Polytechnical University in China and Prof. Erman Tekkaya from Dortmund University in Germany were the chairman, and
    Prof. Zhou Jie from Chongqing University in China was responsible for the overall preparation.
    During the seven days of workshop, the representatives from both sides developed a material academic discussion on the foundation and application research (included the new technology & new method) of sheet metal, pipe and massive precision forming, which promoted the exchange of both sides on the material forming and processing technology and enhanced the realizing and understanding for each other on the scientific and research institution and strength.
    After the academic discussion, the representatives visited the famous automobile manufacturing enterprises in Chongqing and made a detailed investigation on practical application of material forming theory and technology. Moreover, a social meeting was held for participants, in which the scholars abroad and the young workers had a discussion about the cultivation of young research team of modern plastic forming and the establishment of long-acting mechanism of international cooperation and exchange.
    The workshop was closed successfully on Oct. 17th, 2007. No matter in the workshop of after, all the representatives expressed a great interest in the research progress and achievement of material forming field, and hoped the second Sino-German Workshop could be sponsored by German experts. Meanwhile, most participants hoped some relative cooperation research could be developed with target and plan before the next workshop so that the further fruitful cooperation opportunities could be created on the basis of the developed cooperation work at that time.
